Tonight our special guest is BBC Folk Awards Horizon nominee Kirsty McGee, whose "coffee-coloured bedroom ballads from her album Honeysuckle tend towards whispery introspection ". (quote c/o BBC Radio2 Website). And indeed the album is a very impressive beast, not least for a cast list including Clive Gregson, Boo Hewerdine and Niall MacColl to name but a few. Musicians of this calibre do not choose to give up their time lightly.

While obviously feted by the folk crowd, her music is certainly not that genre's straight down the line traditional fare. Playing both flute and guitar, though possibly not at the same time, she weaves marvelous tales and melodies into her set and there is no doubt that we have been fortunate to secure her for tonight's show.

Sit back and let this marvelous talent wash over you.

Lotus 8.25pm - 8.55pm

We open the evening in true AcoustiCity style by supporting some very local talent. Hailing from Wivenhoe Lotus originally approached us last year but such is the demand to play at the club, we had to wait until now to fit them in. Masterminded by singer and guitar player Alex Crabb, expect some unusual and intriguing original songs. Alex is joined on bass by Richard Walton for tonight's performance.

Jamie Lawson 9.00pm - 9.30pm

Our opening half concludes with songwriter and guitarist Jamie Lawson. Strong melodies, compelling delivery and a breath-taking voice have won Jamie Lawson both critical acclaim and a loyal following since his move to London from his native Plymouth. Following a stint studying photography at Art College, Jamie turned his attention full-time to music.

'When I picked up a guitar, it was like breathing out, a sigh of relief' he says. The move to London came soon after, with solo gigs at the 12 Bar and the Kashmir Klub leading to support slots in London and in Ireland for artists such as Thea Gilmore, Damian Rice, The Frames & Jackie Leven, as well as a performance at the Royal Festival Hall. Live, solo or with his band, Jamie is unforgettable.

"Passionate, intimate, emotional and intense.. .a star of the future without a doubt." Get Rhythm, Jan 2002
